The artist´s way project 2011

A few notes so we are all on the same page. Or at least the same chapter. ;)

I´m in no way related to Julia Cameron. I have no formal training to teach lessons/coach. I´m a fan going through “The Artist´s Way” for the second time, sharing her experiences here and offering a space for other people to share their experiences too.

That means I will show you a lot of stuff I´ve found related to the chapters, I will suggest links, I will share (some of) my own exercises and all my artist dates. I will also visit each and everyone of you and will cheer for you all the way. :D

That doesn´t mean I´ll be the perfect hostess. I will whine from time to time and you will see the marks of my nails on the wall when being dragged by the exercises out of my comfort zone. I might … there is no other way to say this … cheat a bit. *blush* I might write two (very big but still two) pages instead of three or go on an artist day with company. That´s all part of my own way

Time schedule:

Use June to read the Introduction. Sunday June 26th is an important date as we will be signing our contract (You´ll find it in the book at the end of the Introduction) and getting ready. I will provide a MrLinky space in case you want to share your contract and thoughts on your hopes and fears about this journey. A picture of your notebook would be nice too. J

July 3rd: First check in to introduce yourself as we start our merry way. Start reading Chapter 1, writing your morning pages in case you haven´t already and doing the exercises.

July 17th: Chapter 1 Check In. Have you showed up for your artist date? Where did you go? Have you written your pages? (According to Julia Cameron nobody must see your pages, not even you for the first 8 to 10 weeks) Have you done your exercises? A MrLinky space will be provided here to share your experiences. Start reading Chapter 2 and working on it.

July 31St: Chapter 2 Check In. How´s it looking? What did you do for your date? Are the pages going steady? Are your lists flowing or has resistance kicked in? A MrLinky space will be provided here to share your experiences. Start reading and working on Chapter 3.

As you see we will meet every two weeks, giving us breathing space to do the exercises in between jobs, families and house chores. We will keep this schedule till Chapter #12 at the end of the year.

Enjoy the journey. It will be exciting, moving and certainly inspiring.

How to share with MrLinky: you type in your name in the first box (the way you´d introduce yourself) and then the url/link to your post (not your whole blog url) where you share your work with the current chapter. When you come back next week your name will likely automatically be entered but you need to redo or paste over the url/link with your new post's address.

Looks all very well organised Paula - have a great time enjoying your progress through the book again. It will be interesting for you to let us know how different you have found it this time compared to the first.

Have fun

You sound so organized! This will be a wonderful way to go through the book. I never made it past Chap.3 last time! The pace sounds good too! Looking forward to it!

My library came through for me and got me a copy of the book. Mine is in storage somewhere and I have no idea where. LOL Yay local library.
Doing good on the morning pages and really enjoying it. I'm going to start on the chapters in the next couple of weeks. I got called for a job that kicks up 7/5. It's going to make things a organizational challenge.

Sounds good, Paula. I finished the intro already, and I plan to use the writing prompts from Judy Reeves' "A Writers Book of Days," every now and then to go with my Morning Pages.

Btw, I drove by a sign that said "Reptile Store" the other day and thought, what a perfect place for an artist date. I'll be on edge, of course, thinking something might snap at me while I'm in there...but I'm so, so curious to see what kind of animals they have!

Happy Sunday and thank you for getting us on track!

Hi! Thanks for stopping by recently. I just have to say I LOVE this book! In fact I just gave one away for my one year blogoversary! I'm swamped absolutely swamped right now or I'd join in, but maybe I'll stop by later to see how it's all going. Enjoy.

Okay, I have to join you in this journey. I wasn't going to. I read your post and said, "No, not now, no time." And then I couldn't stop thinking about it. So I wrote in my journal about why I wasn't going to do it, but for everything I wrote down, I had a reason why that "no" didn't need to be. The hardest thing to overcome was the stuff about TAW that I didn't like when I started it but didn't finish years ago. So I told myself what I would do instead to make it my way, the way you are doing. And then I downloaded the book. So I guess I'm in. :) Thanks for putting this together! Now that I've stopped resisting, I'm really looking forward to it.

OK, I'm in - let's give it a go. I too have struggled to get past the first few chapters before. Not because I didn't like it, but more a time thing. I really believe that doing it in a group will be easier - all that lovely support around us!

Hi Paula, Ileana told me you were hosting The Artist's Way group thingy and I am here because I would love to join in! Please count me in. I had gone through the book about halfway, or probably less, some years ago and have been meaning to get back to it ever since. It will be wonderful to do it as a group, and with your guidance. I'm psyched! Now I'm off to read the instructions in detail.

Grrrrrrr. I messed up - I apologize. I linked my freakin' blog instead of just the post and I do not know how to fix it! Please help. Also, I do want to sign up to work on The Artist's Way - the book is in the mail to me.
