Tips on how to get guest blogging invitations and be ready for them

"Build it and they will come". As inspiring as it sounds, it doesn´t really take you that far.
"Content is King". You´ve heard that one over and over so you write and write awesome content on a regular basis but nobody is coming. What can you do?

Honest truth, sweetie: A way to get more people to know you is to know more people. Where can you find the people? One option is at somebody else´s site as a guest blogger.

Tip # 1: go out there, get to know interesting people doing cool things and mingle.

I have quite a particular view on marketing. I listen / read what the experts have to say. I put much of that into use and yet every time I see that real enthusiasm is the key. Just like dogs can smell fear, somehow people feel when you are not authentic. If you connect looking for profit, you will be left out cold. Now, if you are truly in tune with others, gates will open for you.

Let´s say you discovere an oportunity to guest post at a blog. (Newsflash: there is one right now at A TIPical Day here.) Do you run around like a headless chicken? (That is exactly what I did) Then take into account:

Tip # 2: be prepared.

Have some posts on draft so you can adapt them to your hostess´s niche and style. A few tweaks here and there and voilá: instant guest post ready to go and not loose an opportunity. Pretty pictures and all. Talking about pictures, here is a guest tip on image optimization from Delia at Blog Formatting.

Bonus tip: some ideas to adapt to your focus theme (all real stories from Google)

You can really learn a lot by guest posting and it also helps promote your site. You just have to be adaptable with different niches.

That is an interesting way to look at it. We try and write fresh content every day, but are always willing to use a guest blogger.

Great tips! It's always good to get new ideas because two people think better than just one. And when you toss things around you actually can find a new idea that you hadn't thought before :)

It was veeeeery low profile. Now the kids are older they don´t want to play bunnies any more. ;)

I agree Lisa, we can take what we learn from blogging experiences for a long time.

I agree Joanna. I´m in the process of writing a guest post and something a friend said on FB gave me a different spin on it. Inspiration can come from unexpected sources.
