Wish casting Wednesday: spirit

Easy, I thought.
When Jamie asked "What is your spirit wishing for?" my first image was this mosaic, our tree decorating yesterday. The easy companionship, the eagerness to be part of it shown by the kids, the way each piece fell in place, the carols, even Frida (our dog) hanging around to be with us.

Easy, right? Getting along making pretty things. What more can I ask for?

Then I read Jamie´s new workshop description and my thoughts took a new direction.
First I felt the recognition, the "yes, yes, that is what is happening to me". I haven´t got aclue how to figure out my dreams (I had been pondering about that on The joy Diet process but as usual "urgent gets in the way of important" and life went on without me getting anywhere)

Maybe we don’t know how to figure it out. Maybe we learned along the way that what we want isn’t important or realistic or practical. Maybe we got the message that following our hearts is selfish, indulgent, irresponsible, impractical - or worse, impossible. Maybe we got the message that something about us and what we are yearning for is not okay.

So what do we do? We do what we think we have to. We follow the smart plan, follow the shoulds. We go with what’s available, what’s practical, what our loved ones approve of, what looks like the next logical step and we stop dreaming about things like traveling or making the bestseller list or becoming a photographer, a dancer, a chef, an artist, a star.

I certainly did what was expected of me. I´m your poster child. Best grades in the whole school, did not smoke/drink/do drugs, got my degree, got married, had a boy, had a girl, had a dog. And still, still ... I feel my higher mission is not complete. What´s more, I don´t know what my higher mission is.

Is my life really IT? Am I on the right track? I have fleeting images of Joy and then ...

How do we find our way home?

It all starts with reconnecting to that shiny, beautiful, tender spirit that’s still inside of you longing to be heard. It is never too late. Your soul wants to be heard. All you have to do is give it a chance to speak. The Soul Reflections workshop helps you do just that. It’s gentle and deeply powerful for opening up loving and meaningful communication between you and your spirit.

Maybe my spirit is wishing to be heard. Wishing I stop running around like a headless chicken, ticking things off my list (things I put there myself) and actually listen. Maybe my spirit is wishing to smack me upside down on my head and make me look around.

I´m wishing to discover my Spirit´s voice. :)

What a lovely post. I have every faith that you'll soon be hearing and listening to that voice. We just need to take some time sometimes to s l o w down and listen - not easy I know. However, this is the very time of year when we most need to do this, otherwise we get carried along by stress and miss all the fun, message and magic of the season.

Let it sing, shout, scream, murmur, sigh and giggle.

Oh yes, yes YES!
You are on the right track, and you are not alone...
I think you can consider several of us here your companions on this journey.

Here's to letting our spirits sing, and learning to listen with our hearts.

As Paula wishes for herself, so do I also wish for her with all my heart!

As Paula wishes for herself, so I wish for her also. It may be a good time to reread some of your posts to see if you can hear your voice. May you find it and sing loudly for us all to hear.

Hi Paula,

Lovely post! Do I detect an old fireplace in the background of your family photo? Looks really neat.

I hear what you are saying and so many people all over the world feel the same way. We are all way too obedient to the consumer machine.

I wish for you to take back your own life!

I can really relate to this post. You did a great job putting that feeling, nebulous as it is, into words!

Your family is lovely, and it looks like you all enjoyed the tree trimming :)

As Paula wishes for herself, so I wish for her also ~

What a great post, Paula! I've had these same questions so many times myself. I'm really feeling that my daily morning meditation is helping me to connect and feel balanced. Just going with the flow of being in the present moment.
