Paint Party Friday #8

~~~Waving madly~~~ Hi! Great to see you! Come in, tea is ready, grab a seat. :)
This week I have a WIP (work inprogress) to share with you.
What I learnt this week about painting with acrylics on wood and an "Aha!" stamping moment.
Now, you may have had the feeling of a page/canvas having to be "just so". Maybe you kept mixing colours until you got the "right" shade you were looking for or needed a certain placement or a layer or ... your stamp needed to be facing a certain way.
In my piece you may have recognized the lovely girl as a Suzi Blue design but something is looking odd about her. In this case I needed the girl to be looking into the frame. What to do,
what to do, what to do. Think, think, think. Transfer is the answer! Stamp, photocopy and use transfer liquid to get the girl onto the wood base. Result. :)
Tips:
1) After transfering an image onto wood you need to varnish it to prevent the ink from bleeding while you paint. I used acrylic varnish, matte finish.
Note to self: Self, if you use pencil to mark the inside size of the frame before transfering to help placement, remember to erase said pencil lines BEFORE varnish.
Note to self 2: Hey Self, it´s me again. You might also want to align the tranfer with the pencil lines and NOT the borders because sometimes, you know, the screws might not be totally aligned at the back therefore the back itself is not aligned and well ... your transfer won´t be tidy either.
*sigh*
2) If you are too impatient to wait for a layer to dry before adding shades and lights with a different colour on top, you may use one colour and play with water to make it lighter, leaving more pigment to see it darker. If you don´t like the effect, just wipe the section with a paper towel.
3) When using the watered down method, if the section is big you put a layer of water first and then the colour (so it flows better) and if the section you want to colour in is small you put water on your brush and then pick the colour up.
It's great when you can make something turn out the way you want it to, isn't it.
Can't wait to see this piece finished.
Great tips Paula....I too took a class from Suzi a very long time ago.Then I bought another one of her classes and when I got my new computer I forgot to use it. I downloaded the class in pdf ....almost two years later and still haven't looked at it....need to take it out again...thanks for the reminder. Your gal is looking beautiful!
