So I chose a suitable sized wooden box and in my haste, totally forgot to photograph the whole process. Here´s the pic of the moment I remembered. *sheepish smile*
Base layer painted. Sides and lid covered in paper.
Blow dry, sand the edges to have a neat border, add two other sides, mod podge the whole thing, blow dry again and then brush the varnish. One layer a day to ensure proper finish, this box is going to get some heavy use.
And today: Ta Da! Notice the difference? No?
Close up. I added some crystal beads with Gloo.

Wow, this box is just fantastic! I love the pattern! :-)
Nice job for such a practical use. I confiscated my son's first grade pencil box, but yours is nice and elegant.
the beads are the perfect touch!
Wow - such a beautiful box for all your cables - great idea :)

Very pretty box you created, Paula!
I love this box!!! Don't you hate that when you forget to do the before and after. I do it all the time. I get so caught up in it!!
I LOVE your box- and I desperately need one of my own- our cables are taking over and they have definitely outgrown their basket!
Awesome box. And someone else who likes process! In response to your question on my blog about where I learnt the technique, it was offered in a book called Acrylic Revolution and through trial and error I have adapted, modified and added to it. So I like to say that I have 'invented' this particular variation of it!
Spectacular!!! Good idea about the sanding, I always wondered what to do about the rough edges! Its beautiful! Too pretty for cables though, lol! Deb
Oh Paula, your box is great! Especially love the jewels on top as I'm a girl who loves sparkles! They say necessity is the mother of invention and you certainly proved that right!! Happy PPF! :-)
Useful boxes are so much fun to alter and you have done a super job ;0) Dxx
I need to get some mod podge and re-purpose some things! Lovely~

Beautifully done...sweet perfection! Happy PPF! POP ART MINIS
What a cool transformation! That looks really good.
Gorgeous transformation and loving the beautiful beads Paula. Happy PPF, Annette x
I really like this and I love that you are using it to tidy away all the cables for your digi stuff - we repainted our living room the other day and moved the tv unit away from the wall - it's like a snake pit of cables back there and I haven't a clue what goes where so this idea definitely gets my vote!
What a pretty box and the beads make the perfect touch! HAPPY PPF!
Wowwwwww!~ So neat and nice and perfect! That looks like fabric. Love the richness of it. A fabulous way to shore unsightly cables!
