AEDM 2011: Day 6 Chapter 9 Check In

I´m taking part of Leah Piken Kolidas´ "Art Every Day Month" project for the 6th time and I´m already blown away by the talent I´m discovering on line.

An artist that I immediately added to my feeds is Tracy Swartz.

Her gourd people are cute, funny and meaningful as she makes some of them to represent people she knows in real life, adding their features and personal characteristics to her art pieces.

Here are some Fairy Gourdaments she is working on. There are nine of them total. Her friend sent her pictures of her family members along with their favorite colors and things they like or have an interest in.

Fairy Gourdament, gourd art, gourds art, holiday, christmas, ornaments, goured sculpture, dolls, collectible, collectible dolls, tracy swartz, swartz tracy

I asked her what she wanted to share with other artists and here´s what she had to say: It's important not to give up on that thing that brings you joy. It adds so much to your life and should be honored, no matter what it is.

Thanks for playing along Tracy!

You may remember that at the end of chapter 5 I interviewed Jamie Ridler (Missed that one? Click here to read it & watch Jamie´s video for you). Jamie from Jamie Ridler Studios is a creative living coach. From coaching to workshops, from podcasting to blogging, Jamie´s work helps women find the confidence and courage to discover and express their creative selves so they can be the star they are.

Jamie has kindly given me three copies of Your creative Spark to share with my readers. Camilla won the first one and the second one will be given by the Chapter 10 Check In. That will be on Sunday November 20th. Just leave me a comment stating your interest to be added to the draw.

Now for our weekly "The artist´s way" by Julia Cameron check in:

1) Are you still showing up for the morning pages? One of the exercises this week was to reread them, did you? Do you hide them in a secret place, out of sight?

2) Artist´s date. Have the dates slid down the "Important" list? Did you go anywhere to fill up your well?

3) The tasks. These week we only had a few but they were quite intense! How did you react to the exercises?

How to share with MrLinky: you type in your name in the first box (the way you´d introduce yourself) and then the url/link to your post (not your whole blog url) where you share your work with the current chapter. When you come back next week your name will likely automatically be entered but you need to redo or paste over the url/link with your new post's address.

My working table on Nov 5th (I post every day what I created the day before)
Fear #2: Fear of saying the wrong thing. Deep down a fear of saying something I might regret. He certainly has a "family air" with yesterday´s fear as they are related.

Meeting with a lot of resistance re: Chapter 9 exercises and tasks. Will try one last time today to complete at least one task. I'll post my results later today.

I'm very impressed with Tracy's work too, Paula.

Jamie is an inspiration and a great motivator!

OH yes, a fear of saying the wrong thing often plagues me. I would hate to unintentionally hurt someone's feelings. Great interpretation!

I think it is great that you have been able to create a visual representation of your fears. Saying the wrong thing & being liked are fears that I think many of us share.

Chapter nine made me think there may be more to losing my book than meets the eye. I did lose everything that was on the computer but I have found most of my hardcopy. I have been thinking of getting back to writing it and this chapter has made me realize that I need to think very seriously about finishing my book.

Getting over the fear is crucial in expressing our work. I love this chapter...and your latest artwork speaks to me. Great job, amiga!! Love how you keep on keepin' on...how we all do! :)

Paula, I loved Tracy's gourd work as soon as I saw it, too! Love seeing her pop up here today :) And your pieces with the fear gremlins are just so moving. Really enjoying getting to see those unfold for AEDM. Miracles! k-

Thank you so much Paula for sharing my art on your blog!

I LOVED your drawing of fear! I can relate to that well. I have gone through the Artist's Way a couple of times and found it a very powerful journey.

This video is how I look at my fears. http://www.youtube.com/user/isosoykan#p/u/16/UUCMRx2S8H0

Thanks again and enjoy your day!

Hey Paula, I had to come and see what you're up to since I know you're dong AEDM like I am. If I remember right it was this last year where we "met" wasn't it? I'm really drawn to the little person you created the yesterday! And you're doing the same thing as me, posting from the day before...it's the only way posting is going to happen at this house! And, I really liked the little tid bit of advice your artist gave us today.

Insurmountable resistance to this week's Tasks. I managed one. I had forgotten completely about "filling the well." This is something I have never done through the whole project and it's so important, too. Well, it'll be something to make a point of doing now.

Love Tracy's gourds! So adorable! And I commend you on your bringing your fears to light in a creative, even pretty, way! I share that fear with you - of saying the wrong thing.

Oh, by the way, I don't know if, in my last comments, I mentioned my wanting to be added to your drawing for Jamie's book but I definitely do want to!! PLeeeease add me in! Thank you very much.

XOXO

I've gone through The Artist's Way a couple of times now, and have been saying for the last year that I need to do it again. I do write my morning pages, but I never read them. If I did it would be too obvious to me what a whiny, help rejecting complainer I am;)

Wow - hard to keep up with all you're involved in! Love Tracy's work so it's nice to see you and here here! I am most drawn to your fear drawing...I have always had a problem of figuring out the right reaction (fear of saying the wrong thing). What I'm learning is that "wrong" is a judgement call: it may be wrong for someone else and perfect for me. If I stay true to myself then it isn't wrong.
