Keep it simple, make it work BONUS week

Happy Easter! :) This hunny bunny painted by Brianne Boyd arrived yesterday. Right on time to be part of our Easter mantelpiece.

Welcome to a bonus week of my decluttering and organizing of home spaces series.

The project´s summary:
9 months to streamline your home spaces and systems
3 months for the practical spaces: kitchen, bathrooms, laundry room
3 months for the shared areas: entry hall, living room, dining room
3 months for the personal spaces: bedrooms, office, hobbies room
1 big task each week illustrated with my own pictures and daily {gentle} reminders, tips and cheering at my Facebook page. Like it to be able to receive them every day and record your progress with a friendly crew!

This week is for hot spots aka dark caves of doom. Those spots that seem to have a black hole parked there and attract all kinds of stuff to them.
You may choose your own and work on it. Pace yourself. You may do a tiny little bit each day on the same, alternate between several or take one of the suggestions.

A tip? Never take out more than you can sort through. If you empty the whole wardrobe but can only work on it for half an hour, you will end up with what looks like a super cluttered room which is in fact just a work in progress but might look disappointing.

Hot spots suggestions:
Day 1: light appliances and light bulbs. Replace all those that are broken or not working. Here are some safety tips from the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Electrical Safety Foundation International  on electrical cords.

Day 2: your car. Take everything out of the boot/trunk. Does it belong there? Eg: emergency light, tools, car jack, extra tire. Has it been there for what feels forever because you never took it into the house? Now it´s time. Get the ash tray clean. Get rid of all the candy papers, empty cans and such other junk. Bonus points if you get it cleaned.

Day 3: techno junk. Look for all your devices cords and chargers. Can you place them? Label them. Tip: here´s a good use for your washi tapes. ;) Option 1: keep them all together in a box. Option 2: keep them close to the device in the room it is mostly used.

Day 4: recycle bins. Get all your surplus paper and plastic together to be recycled. Do you gather plastic bottles or bottle caps? I´m great at getting my bottles to be recycled but not the caps. See? This picture was taken in May 2011 and I haven´t sent them in YET!!! Yes, I have more now. *sigh*

Day 5:  your handbag. Get everything out of your purse (bag). Get all the little paper pieces together. Old receipts? Keep them if you need them for tax purposes, throw them away if not. Telephone numbers? Write them in your address book. Business cards? Same thing. Check the sweet treats you may have in there. Past their best before date? Half melted? Half eaten? Out the go. Have you got your id? Car papers? Credit cards? Keep them safe. You may put all the small items together in a smaller bag to transfer from handbag to handbag when you change them to match what you are wearing.

Day 6: lists day. Today make a list of repairs to be done. Pencil them in in your diary. Budget for them. Get in contact with the person that will do the work.
Window shopping for bathroom fixtures
Day 7: enjoy your day off!

Good list to have handy. There are somethings on there that are not in my household notebook. My brother is going to clean out my car today as a help to me! Always great if you can outsource the work.
